No new Media Center this year :(

Some unconfirmed details about Windows XP Media Center Edition 2006 have already leaked out (like that it’s going to support CableCARD), but now IDG is reporting that for the first time in three years Microsoft isn’t going to issue a new version of their Media Center software. In the meantime the best we’ll be able to expect is some sort of update and as of right now the next version of Media Center won’t arrive until Longhorn arrives (there has been some speculation that Longhorn would come integrated with all the Media Center software).

i just read the review and am a little bit confused. i recently bought MCE2K5 and now i read this. media center will be an update in the future to XP pro or home users with "some features"? or will users need to buy the os like i did?

I guess it will be an upgrade or service pack of sorts....it's all speculation so I would not worry too much about it at this stage.
