Orb & Media Center

Engadget reports;

Orb Networks has been generating some solid buzz for their streaming software app, which lets you access the media (like music files, digital photos, and recorded TV shows) stored on your Media Center PC from pretty much anywhere (including a Windows Mobile-powered cellphone), and now they’re letting people who don’t own Media Center PCs share in the love with a new version that works on regular Windows XP PCs. Right now the non-Media Center service (which’ll set you back $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year) only works with a handful of supported TV tuner cards of ADS Tech and AVerMedia, and as long as we’re on the topic, we should mention our one major gripe with Orb: if your Media Center PC is already recording a show or is left in live TV mode, you can’t stream any of your recorded shows. We know why they do this—to appease the piracy-obsessed TV networks—but we were in the mood to watch a little Mr. Show this morning (TBS is playing reruns in the middle of the night), and discovering that we couldn’t totally harshed our mellow.
